Day 5: The Narrows- 5/22/19

A leaf, and a sketch and description of it.

Today we went to The Narrows to do water testing, hiking, and to swim in the river We also had to create a field journal. In our journals, we had to sketch and write a description of anything you find in nature, a leaf, rock, etc. Then, we had to write down the water testing results, and lastly, sketch and describe an animal you saw at the nature center. My friends and I went to the Nature Center first. We wrote about an animal, and what we found in nature. I chose to write about and sketch a leaf. I'm not sure what type it was, but I taped it into my journal (as shown on the left). I described it using all of my senses (except taste). Carefully analyzing a (seemingly) simple object, such as this leaf, helped me find the beauty in the simple things. I noticed the delicate ridges on the edges, the small veins stretching across the leaf, etc. I also thought about what type of sounds it makes (when rustling in the wind), how it feels, and much more.

We then went swimming in the river. We used this rope to swing in. We probably spent the most of our time swimming, just because it was so fun. However, the river bank was very muddy, and whenever we got out, we'd always slip.

I actually didn't get to water test, since we ran out of time. But when we got back to the school, we could either do yoga or work on our blogs and field journals; I worked on my blog and field journal. Overall this day was very fun! Check out the pictures from our field trip below-

Swinging from the rope! This was my favorite part! Kaylee pushed me in from the tree though ;)

An eagle or hawk (I'm not sure which) at the aviary.
